Tilting & Swiveling mounts
This type of mount is suitable for a variety of different reasons. It allows the TV to be tilted up/down and swivel/turn from side to side. I even once installed a mount for someone wanting to have the TV mounted on one side of the wall in the bathroom facing the sink/shower area, but they also wanted to be able to turn it into a different room. The tilting and swiveling mount allowed them to do this perfectly.
One of the reasons some people choose to stay away from this type of mount is because they would rather have a mount that can sit very close to the wall. Tilting and swiveling mounts generally extend about 5 inches from the wall at minimum. However, this is more of a personal preference more than anything.
Tilting Wall Mounts

Tilting Mount
My friend wanted me to help him mount his TV above the fireplace. The best type of mount for this purpose was a Tilting Wall Mount or a Tilting and Swiveling mount. He chose a tilting mount since he didn’t need to turn the tv side-to-side . A tilting mount allowed him to point the TV down to face the viewing area. These mounts usually extend about 4 inches from the wall.
Low Profile Wall Mounts

Low Profile Wall Mount
Low profile mounts are the best for people looking to mount the TV almost like they would a picture. The extension from the wall is only about 1 inch so it is good for a clean look. However, these mounts cannot be pointed up/down or turned so keep this in mind when choosing the mounting location.
Pick a good location to mount your LCD TV before you start the process. The best place to mount an LCD TV is where it can be viewed from multiple angles and where direct sunlight will not hit the screen. Even the best LCD TVs can have screen glare. Also consider the viewing distance from where you are going to mount the TV. You have to make sure that it is not too close or too far from the sitting area, which could cause you mild to moderate eye strain. The ideal distance from the TV is usually 8 to 10 feet.
- First, choose the appropriate Flat Screen TV Wall Mount since your LCD TV probably will not come with a mount.
- Before you start installing the mount to the wall, you’re going to need read the instruction manual all the way through. It’s tempting to install the mount your LCD TV without reading through the instructions, but I highly recommend doing so. You’ve probably spent a lot of money on your LCD TV, and you don’t want to risk damaging it during installation.
- Your instruction manual should list all required tools. Gather all the tools you need to complete the mount installation and organize them where you can reach them easily.
- Get a friend or relative to help you install the LCD TV on the wall bracket. You’ll find it much easier to mount your television to the wall with an additional set of hands for assistance.
- Run the cables through a wall so they will be hidden from view. The main appeal of LCD TVs is their clean look and you don’t want to take away from that with messy cables.
- Mount the LCD TV on the wall carefully making sure you hit the studs and everything is secure.
The number one thing people worry about before purchasing a LCD TV Bracket is: Will my TV fit the mount?
Here’s the Answer
Most LCD TVs are compliant with VESA standard mounts. Television manufacturers have an industry interface standard. This means the hole pattern on the rear of the LCD TV screen fits any mounting device. Here is a summary of the VESA standard mounting hole pattern that is used today:
- For smaller and medium flat panels, LCD monitors and screens from 12″ to 22.9″ diagonal, and falling in a weight range up to 30.8 lbs (14 kg): 75 x 75 mm or 100 x 100 mm (2.95″ x 2.95″ or 3.94″ x 3.94″)
- For larger monitors with viewing screen from 23″ to 30.9″ diagonally, weight range up to 50 lbs: VESA 200mm x 100mm and 200mm x 200mm
- For large Plasma screens and LCD TV displays 31″ to 90″ diagonal, but weights not greater than 250 lbs. there are various hole patterns in 200 mm increments: 400mm x 200mm, or 600mm x 400mm, or 800mm x 400mm
Feel free to measure the hole mounting patterns on the back of your TV if you still are not sure
